As you may know, BeyArMaMo is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. You may also know that I plan to put together an art book to celebrate. Well, I’ve finally worked out all the details and I’m now providing them here for you should you wish to get involved!

About

The 10th Anniversary art book is a personal project I’m working on to both share my artwork from the past eleven years and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event in more general terms. Below is a rough idea for its layout and examples of some of its content.

The first two-thirds of the book will be split into eleven sections, one for every year BeyArMaMo has been running. These sections will include information about each year’s event as well as a selection of my artwork.

The final third of the book will be dedicated to celebrating the 10th anniversary of BeyArMaMo.

My hope here is to include:

- Information about the 2018 event and its participants
- Artwork by participants from past and present events
- Comments from participants from past and present events
- Artwork from participants specifically created to celebrate the 10th anniversary

Obviously, the final third of the book is dependant on you lovely folk wanting to get involved. Read on to find out how you can do that.

Submissions

If you quite like the sound of being part of this celebratory book then there are a few ways you can join in.

1) Submit artwork you have created for past or present events.

That drawing of Kai you drew for the 2014 event? Send it on over. That fic you wrote in this year’s event? Yes, please. If you have any BeyArMaMo piece you’d like to share from any year then feel free to send it on over for consideration. While BeyArMaMo celebrates artwork in all stages of completion, please only submit what you feel is your best work for the book.

All artwork will be credited and you may provide one social media link to be posted with it if you would like to.

2) Submit a comment about BeyArMaMo

Share your BeyArMaMo stories here. Why did you first participate? What’s kept you coming back? What’s your favourite thing about the event? If this was your first event, how did it go?

Again, all comments will be credited. If you would like to provide artwork and a comment, that’s absolutely fine. Encouraged even.

3) Submit a piece of artwork celebrating BeyArMaMo’s 10th Anniversary

Do you just love BeyArMaMo that much that, heck yeah, you wanna draw Rei with a cake because everything needs a cake for its anniversary? Or, you know what, you just totally feel Kai’s stripey BeyArMaMo jumper and you just wanna have some of that action? If you’re excited that the event’s reached this milestone and you want to celebrate it by way of art then please feel free.

As above, all art will be credited.

How To Submit Your Artwork And / Or Comments

To submit artwork and / or comments, please email them directly to hello@beyarmamo.co.uk, making sure to include your name (real or nickname, whichever you want to print), the year your artwork is from (where possible) and any social media or personal website link you would like printing (please only provide one link).

Please submit all content by Monday 19th November.

Artwork Specifications

- Artwork must be at least 300dpi.
- Artwork can be any shape or orientation but please make sure the shortest edge is at least 750px long. This is the absolute minimum length/width your image should be.
- Artwork can be provided as RGB but will be converted to CMYK which may result in a slight difference in colour.
- High quality, clean scanned images are allowed. Photographs should also be of a high quality and well lit.
- Literature / Comment Specifications

Literature and comments will be posted as received so please make sure you have spellchecked like a pro! I know it’s not always easy to catch typos - I’ve printed plenty - but please just give things a final once-over before you submit.

Comments can be short little tweet-sized things or a couple of paragraphs. It’s entirely up to you and what you want to say.

Book Specifications

Size: A5
Pages: 48-62 (depending on the number of submissions)
Cover: 300gsm silk paper with a smooth matt finish
Inner paper: 130gsm silk
Release date: Late November / Early December (approx)
Shipping: Worldwide
Estimated Price: £8 (Small runs in printing tend to be quite expensive. This is on the assumption of only getting 10 orders. If it looks like there may be more then it might work out a little cheaper. The price will not exceed this though - I’ll cover any potential additional costs out of my own pocket)

Important Information

i) This book is being put together by a Beyblade fan who loves art. It’s a total labour of love and very unlikely to make a profit (or even break even). I’ll be making this book even if no one submits anything and I’ll be making it if no one orders it but me! On the whole, all my books are funded from my own pocket, and more often than not, at a loss. All this basically means is that I cannot provide anything (monetary or otherwise) in return for you submitting artwork. If you choose to do so it must be on the understanding that you’re doing it just because you want to. Obviously, I understand people not wanting to provide artwork for free and that’s absolutely fine. Please consider submitting a comment instead.

ii) All submissions must be received by Mon 19th November. This will give me roughly two weeks to finish the print file, get it printed and sent to me ready for dispatch at the very end of the month. There’s always something that goes wrong though so please be aware that the shipping date may change by a week or two.  Preorders will go up mid-November when the book is more or less complete.

iii) To keep costs down, there’s only a maximum of 18 pages available for submissions. This is actually a decent amount of space but should I get an influx of submissions then I may not be able to print all of them. I’ll do my best to print everything that’s sent to me but I thought I’d better mention this just in case.

iv) If your images are not of a high enough quality (in a printing sense, not an artwork sense) then I may have to refuse them. If you’re not sure about resolution or size, just email me and I’ll help you out.

And Finally

I think that’s it. If there’s anything you’re not sure about, just get in touch. If you need to ask anything at all about any of this, just get in touch. Seriously, just let me know. Feel free to note me (Gasara) or you can email me at hello@beyarmamo.co.uk

Cheers my lovely BeyArMaBros x
Happy October and welcome to the start of BeyArMaMo 2018!

Whether you’ve carefully planned out your artwork for each day or you’re just planning on winging it, now’s the time to start putting pencil to paper. Yes, BeyArMaMo 2018 has finally begun!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve tried to provide you with all the information you need regarding the event but I know it’s easy to miss posts now and again. I’m just going to leave you here with a few final things you might need to know and some handy links in case you need them. After that, you’re free to crack on with your challenge or to simply sit back and watch all this wonderful BeyArt roll in. And so, with no more ado...

01. Mini-BeyArMaMo Timeline

What classifies as a ‘week’ for Mini-BeyArMaMo is pretty straightforward - Monday to Sunday, with the exception of the final week which runs until the end of the month.

[ Week .01 ] Mon 1st Oct - Sun 7th Oct

[ Week .02 ] Mon 8th Oct - Sun 14th Oct

[ Week .03 ] Mon 15st Oct - Sun 21st Oct

[ Week .04 ] Mon 22nd Oct - Wed 31st Oct

Your weekly art should be completed within those dates.

02. Tagging Your Artwork

You do not need to tag the BeyArMaMo social media accounts in your art posts. There’s no need to provide proof that your are working on your challenge, either through tagging or providing links. The event is self-policing so you simply need to keep track of your own work.

If you want to share your work with the wider BeyArMaMo community then you can use the hashtags #beyarmamo or #beyarmamo2018 to help people track your work.

When you post your artwork, you don’t really need to mention BeyArMaMo at all but it might help to do so, especially if you usually post Beyblade artwork anyway. It just makes it a bit clearer which pieces are for your challenge but, again, it’s up to you whether you do this or not.

03. Helpful Links

Finally, here’s a list of links that you might find useful. Most of the information you need can be found on beyarmamo.co.uk

1) BeyArMaMo 2018 Event Information - All the information you need regarding the event and how it works.

2) Full Participant List - The complete list of registered participants for 2018, including links to their art blogs.

3) Daily Theme Prompts - A list of optional daily prompts to challenge or inspire you during the event.

4) Tips and Tricks for Completing BeyArMaMo 2018 - A few ideas to help you if you struggle during the challenge.

Right then, I think that’s all you need to know. I’ve waffled on quite enough over the last few days! All that’s left now is to wish you all the best with your chosen challenges and to say how happy I am that so many of you have chosen to celebrate Beyblade with me once again. Have a great time guys! And remember, if you’re not sure about anything, just get in touch.

Good luck everyone!
Hiya guys!

The official theme list for 2018 is now up!

Theme days are an optional extra to help inspire or challenge you. Each day, a new theme will be posted for you to base your work on. It might be a colour or an object, a feeling or a place. You can choose to use all the themes, some of the themes or none at all. Participants in the Mini-BeyArMaMo challenge may pick any of the themes posted for each particular week.

The full list of themes is now available to help you start planning your artwork if you wish to do so.

(Of course, there’s nothing wrong with just winging it instead!)

- Beyblade Art Making Month -

A B O U T

BeyArMaMo is an annual art event that encourages fans of Bakuten Shoot Beyblade to get creative throughout October.

The Beyblade Art Making Month came about in 2008 after it occured to me that I loved art and I loved Beyblade but I hadn’t been combing the two together enough. I decided to rectify this by setting myself the challenge to create a piece of Beyblade art every day for an entire month. There were plenty of scribbles and hastily drawn nonsense (and a inexplicable drawing of Daichi sitting on a cow) but somehow I managed to complete the challenge. And I felt awesome.

The following year, I decided to take up the challenge again but this time I was joined by a handful of friends from DeviantArt. It was received positively and that was pretty much that. The event has since been held each October, growing year on year, and with fans participating from all around the world. This year we will be celebrating BeyArMaMo’s 10th Anniversary.

T H E  C H A L L E N G E

The BeyArMaMo concept is pretty simple. Participants are challenged to create Bakuten Shoot Beyblade art throughout October - that’s it. It doesn’t even have to be good art. Or finished. The focus is on creation so there’s no problem if you can only manage a scribble or something comes out a bit wonky. It’s simply about creating something when we otherwise might not have done. It’s all good.

It sounds pretty easy but when you’re crawling in from a long shift from work the last thing you’ll probably want to think about doing is, well, anything. Or maybe you’ve got the school run, and the shopping to do and you need a tidy round and before you know it it’s bedtime and you haven’t had chance to pick up a pencil. Perhaps you just can’t think of anything to draw or you might simply be lacking any measure of motivation. This is where the challenge aspect comes in. Some days you’ll be throwing out art left, right and centre and others will leave you cursing all your life choices. But that’s part of what makes it exciting. It’s sort of stressful in a good way.

If you’re not loving the idea of stress then don’t worry - help is at hand. There are three challenge types for you to choose from. Each is akin to a different difficulty so if you want a nice gentle time, have at it. But if you want an all encompassing Beyblade art extravaganza then you can have that too.

Simply pick the challenge type that appeals to you most and rock on.

01 - BeyArMaMo

This is the original, and most difficult, challenge. Your aim is to create at least one piece of artwork every day throughout October. By the end of the month you should have created at least 31 pieces of art.

02 - Mini-BeyArMaMo

This is a gentle challenge to motivate you while keeping the stress at a minimum. Your aim here is to create at least one piece of art every week throughout October. By the end of the month you should have created at least 4 pieces of art.

03 - Super-Mini-BeyArMaMo

This is, in theory, the least challenging of the three options. Just a 1 piece of art, that’s all you need to do. Perfect for those of us with hectic lives. And procrastinators.

T H E M E  D A Y S

Theme days are an optional extra to help inspire or challenge you. Each day, a new theme will be posted for you base your work on. It might be a colour or an object, a feeling or a place. You can choose to use all the themes, some of the themes or none at all. Participants in the Mini-BeyArMaMo challenge may pick any of the themes posted in each particular week.

The full theme list will be posted one week before the start of BeyArMaMo to help you plan your artwork.

R U L E S

BeyArMaMo was designed to be a challenge but it’s also extremely casual. Like, whatever. Above all else it’s meant to be fun so please don’t worry about the rules, even though there are technically rules. You can actually get away with a lot. But if you do wish to be mindful of the rules, here they are.

1) This event is solely for Bakuten Shoot Beyblade fan art. ‘Beyblade’ is not used as a blanket term for the entire franchise. Only art based on Bakuten Shoot Beyblade, Bakuten Shoot Beyblade 2002 (V Force), Bakuten Shoot Beyblade G Revolution, Bakuten Shoot Beyblade The Movie: Gekitou!! Takao vs Daichi (Fierce Battle) and the manga (including Rising) is permitted.

2) All art must contain Bakuten Shoot Beyblade characters. They can cosplay, reference other series or even dive into a world of crossovers, but the main focus must be Beyblade. OCs, however, are not permitted.

3) Your art shouldn’t be created in advance. Art for day one should be created on the 1st of October, day two on the 2nd of October, and so on. For the weekly challenge, art for week three should be created during the third week, etc. Creating your art in advance sort of lessens the joy.

4) Your art can be in any form. Digital illustrations, traditional illustrations, comics, literature, photography, crafts, cosplay - baking even! If you want to knit Kai’s scarf, you go for it.

5) Enjoy. It’s not technically a rule as such but… Please just roll with it and try not to stress yourself out. If you don’t finish or you miss a day, don’t worry. You’re still awesome because you’re embracing your Beyblade love. And that’s all that matters.

H O W  T O  P A R T I C I P A T E

You will be able to sign up for the event from the 1st of September until the 30th of September. A list of registered participants will be made available so you can share links to your artwork and find other artists so follow.

If you prefer not to sign up officially then that’s fine too. You can participate in your own way.

Exclusive BeyArMaMo goodies will be available for registered members to purchase during the event.

The sign up form will be posted at the beginning of September.

S C H E D U L E

1 0 T H  A N N I V E R S A R Y

BeyArMaMo is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and to commemorate this momentous occasion I am planning a souvenir art book. I’ll be sharing more details about this shortly and I hope some of you might like to take part in it too!

A N D  F I N A L L Y

I think I’ve covered everything here that needs to be covered but if there’s something you’re not sure about then just get in touch. I’ll be sorting out a few extra things over the next few weeks before sign ups start so expect one or two more updates before then. In the meantime, keep being awesome and if you feel like sharing news about the event then that would be lovely. Hopefully we’ll have an absolute bunch of us raring to go by October!

Take it easy, guys!
